What are reflective products?
Reflective materials create an effect when light reaches them under suitable viewing conditions. Retroreflective materials return light near the direction of the source. They reflect incoming light and do not glow by themselves in darkness.
In apparel and accessories, reflective elements also form part of the design: a garment logo, backpack outline, decorative stitch or bag graphic. Review both the daytime appearance and illuminated effect.
Select by production process
- Reflective labels: logos, lettering and surface graphics. Confirm the dimensions, fabric and attachment method.
- Reflective yarns and threads: stitch, embroidery or yarn details. Confirm yarn specification, machine, needle and stitch density.
- Reflective piping: sewn outlines on garments and bags. Confirm total width, visible profile and seam construction.
- Stretch reflective labels: sample details on stretch fabric. Assess the extension direction, recovery and surface after testing.
Colours and surface effects
For a main colour, compare coloured reflective labels. For a multi-colour effect, see iridescent reflective labels. Dark designs can be assessed using black reflective labels on the intended fabric.
Trial transparent reflective and transparent iridescent reflective samples on the actual colour of fabric. The base colour, fabric texture and viewing angle can change the perceived finish.

- Sportswear: logos and graphics at positions defined on the pattern.
- Jackets: logos, decorative strips or piping matched to the garment construction.
- Bags and backpacks: details on straps, pockets, outlines or identification panels.
- Fashion collections: approval of colour, effect and feel before selecting the material.
Prepare a material selection and quotation request
Send artwork or an original sample, dimensions, position, actual fabric, quantity and required dates. For yarns and piping, add roll specifications, the quotation unit and the intended sewing process.
For heat transfer labels, approve an applied sample on the production fabric. Agree washing, stretch, adhesion and documentation requirements for the exact material. A test criterion or result for one product does not apply automatically to the whole range.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use a label, thread or piping?
Choose from the product construction. A surface logo usually needs a label option, a stitched detail needs the appropriate thread, and a shaped sewn edge needs piping. Send the pattern and reference sample for review.
Can I select a reflective material from photographs alone?
Photographs help choose a design direction. Approve physical samples for daytime colour, illuminated effect, feel and the process on your actual fabric.
