What is reflective piping?
Piping is incorporated into a seam to create a distinct outline on a finished product. Reflective piping adds an effect under light along that outline. Unlike a surface transfer logo, select piping with the pattern and sewing construction. Define the portion inside the seam and the portion that remains visible.
Applications for sewn reflective outlines
- Panel outlines on jackets.
- Edges around pockets or backpack panels.
- Outlines on bags and accessories.
- Design lines reviewed at straight sections, corners and curves.
Agree the piping specification
- Total trim width and the visible portion after sewing.
- Diameter or raised profile, or a cross-section reference.
- Colour and intended effect.
- Roll specification, required length and quotation unit.
- Pattern or a photograph of the seam position, plus actual fabric.
State whether a width describes the entire trim or the finished visible edge. A cross-section or sewn trial helps avoid a specification mismatch.
Assess a sewn trial
Sew the sample on the actual base material. Inspect the evenness of the exposed edge, appearance at joins and stability around curves. Trial tight corners where the product has them. Then assess the surface, reflective effect and product care requirements using the customer's criteria.
