3M Scotchlite Flame-Resistant Reflective Trims
Flame-resistant reflective clothing requires selection by the exact 3M Scotchlite material code, attachment method and garment specification. Similar colours or reflective appearance do not establish the same construction or certification scope.
Compare transfer trims with sewn fabrics
- 5686 and 5687: segmented Fire Coat Comfort Trims attached by heat transfer.
- 5535: silver flame-resistant segmented transfer trim.
- 9587B: a sewn fabric trim; confirm the exact regional code and lot.
- 8987: fluorescent reflective fabric; review the precise product and certification scope.
Prepare the garment specification
- Exact material code and manufacturer or roll-label documents.
- Flame-resistant base fabric information and the required garment standard.
- Strip layout, dimensions, attachment details and quantity.
- The actual washing and drying process and required finished-garment tests.
Evaluate the proposed garment construction
Test the selected material on the actual base fabric and at the intended position. Keep records of the approved code and lot. A component’s documents do not automatically certify the complete protective garment.
Frequently asked questions
Can a sewn trim be changed to a transfer trim without review?
The attachment method changes the garment construction. Review the substrate, production method, layout and required tests before approving the change.
Can all Scotchlite flame-resistant codes use the same certificate?
Review the scope for the exact material and variant. A shared brand or product group name does not establish the same approvals.
